ReAction News: Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Funko and Super 7 are releasing figures for the ReAction line based on the movie The Nightmare Before christmas.
The ReAction line creates
3 ¾” figures in a retro "Kenner" 5POA style.

The Nightmare Before christmas is a weird but enjoyable Yule movie released in 1993.

This is a grinning Jack, it is a pity he didn't come with a different accessory like a red and white Yule hat.

What is the go with this facial expression?  Its bizzare, and i think i love it, i wish the variants had different names so buying online was easier. I would have liked a different accessory, like his ghost dog?

This is the one i think of as the "normal" Jack, he has his book of holidays, i think.

I like that this figure is so tiny and comes with a bunch of accessories.

Is it wrong that i dont even remember him from the movie, i only re-watched it last year... Still who wouldn't want a big guy with an axe in his head?

Ahhh the created stereotype of a devil, he is cute, i think his pitchfork is adorable.

Like most politicians he is two faced. He is a cool figure.

A completly superflious character, really i would have rather had any other background character, the Ishtar bunny, Santa, Boogie  anyone really. I suppose she is an okay figure, and comes with her poising tools by the look of it... I think she is missing her stitches?

Opinion:

These figures look highly polished and i don't know if they fit exactly into the ReAction line, i cant quite put my finger on what it is, so it may be nothing. something about the Mayer definitely doesn't sit right with me for some reason.
Having said that Jack, Devil and Barrel will probably find a home here.

Released:
August 2014

About the holidays:

christmas is a christian holiday believed to have been incorporated into the christian calender to help convert the pagans, it is heavily based on Yule, the pagan holy celebration of the winter solstice. Yule is celebrated 21 or 22 December in the northern hemisphere and 21 June in the southern hemisphere.

Halloween or Samhain is a seasonal religious holy day celebrated on the 30th of April–1st of May in the Southern Hemisphere, and as it is a seasonal festival it is celebrated on the 31st of October –1st of November in the northern hemisphere.

At Samhain the veil between this world and the spiritual world is very thin, as such it is a time to communicate, honor and pay respect to those who have died.

Preview: Disney Frozen Figures

Frozen:

Funko are releasing a line of there vinyl Pop figures based on the Frozen movie.

Not having seen the movie, i will keep the commentary to a minimum.

...
I like the ice crystal or snow flake thing in her hand.

He reminds me of Hickup from how to train your dragon.

Creepy exuberant snowman, a Yule decoration anyone would love.

Now this figure is cool, i want one just to display as a representation of Cernunnos. He would also look cool beside Rudolf as a Yule decoration.

Opinion:
I am sure fans of the movie will love them all. for others some could make excellent Yule decorations, it just a pitty they were not released to coincide with Yule in Australia (20th-23rd June). Well they can be displayed next year.

69 Jack Skellington, Disney

Jack Skellington

Day of the Dead

Is from the stop motion movie The Nightmare Before christmas. The story is about Jack and his plans to celebrate Yule in Halloween town. This version is decorated like a candy skull.

Jack Skellington is the 69th figure in the Funko vinyl pop Disney line. This figure is titled Day of the Dead Jack Skellington on the back of the box.

This figure is obviously Jack Skellington and the candy skull designs are easily noticed.

Beautiful candy skull designs adorn Jacks head. His mouth and nose holes are molded in but his eyes are painted on.

He wears his striped suit.

It has the same nice tail design.

He is in the same pose and has the same body sculpt as Jack Skellington 15.

Candy mobile anyone?

Jack Skellington, Santa Jack Skellington and Day of the Dead Jack Skellington.

The Day of the Dead:

The day of the dead is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration takes place on October 31, November 1 and November 2 in Mexico. The holiday is very similar to the pagan Halloween or Samhain celebrated on 31 October – 1 November in the Northern Hemisphere and 30 April – 1 May in the Southern Hemisphere.
Many southern hemisphere pagans usually incorporate it into their Samhain celebrations in April-May.

Though it is becoming popular as the shops and media try to enforce celebrating Halloween at the wrong time of year in Australia, for Pagans to celebrate The Day of the Dead in October-November. As pagans are known for their acceptance of others ignorance, most people celebrating Halloween at the wrong time are not even aware it is a seasonal holy day and how offense they are being celebrating it on Beltane.

15 Jack Skellington, Disney

Jack Skellington

Is from the stop motion movie The Nightmare Before christmas. The story is about Jack and his plans to celebrate Yule in Halloween town.

Jack Skellington is the 15th figure in the Funko vinyl pop Disney line.

Its  easy to recognise who this figure represents.

He has a nice molded smile, though its different to the one on the box. His eyes are indented and he has holes for a nose.

He looks quite dapper in his striped suit.

The "frayed" tail looks cool.

The collar is a nice touch.

Do we want a Halloween mobile for him to drive, yes i think we do.

The perfect gift for an undead fan.

03 Holidays Rudolph the red nose reindeer Rudolph

The character Rudolph appeared in the claymation Yule film Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer back in 1964.
In the film Rudolph and his friends knockout the poor yeti named Bumble and forcibly remove all his teeth without anesthetic. This somehow tames the Bumble

The character of Rudolph was first published in 1939, but deer have been associated with Yule for far longer.
Yule is a religious festival observed by many historical pagan peoples, later being absorbed into the christian religion to aid conversion as Christmas. In most forms of Wicca, and many of the old religions Yule is celebrated at the winter solstice (Northern hemisphere: December 21 to 22, Southern hemisphere: June 20 to 21)  as the rebirth of the Great antlered god, who is often viewed as the newborn solstice sun.
The christians didn't really change much keeping a lot of pagan symbolism; The Antlered god (Reindeer), Pentagram (5 pointed star), Tree decorating, Gift giving, Santa Claus, Mistletoe, etc, etc from the original holy day of Yule.

Rudolph looks cute.

His body shape is interesting for a Pop figure.

His tail is adorable.
It seems Funko are using this general form for a lot of animal pops.

He has only just started to grow his antlers.

His nose is cool, but mine is poorly painted.

Not the kind of Santas that you would want to work for.

Here he is representing christmas with some other holiday pops, Jason and Michael.

Some xmes flavored pop figures. Bumble, Rudolph, Gremlin and Gizmo

Sick of pulling a heavy sleigh, Rudolph decides on a different mode of transportation, the Batmobile!

No matter what holidays or holydays you celebrate  lets all be good to one another, promote equality and appreciate each others differences.

Preview: A christmas story Pop!

A Christmas Story

A christmas story is a bizarre American move released in 1983. It has become a Yule classic despite or perhaps because of its strangeness.

Bunny Suit Ralphie

Poor Ralphie is given a pink bunny suit for xmas...

Sheriff Ralphie

Sheriff Ralphie with his BB gun that his negligent  parents allowed him to receive for x-mas.

The Old Man

The Old Man with his prize leg lamp.

Opinion:
Fans of this classic movie may consider these a must buy. The movies dated values, (giving children guns as toys, racism etc) will prevent it from gaining new fans. Taken as individual figures they are quite cool and interesting in their own right.
