'This is Sparta!"
Leonidas
The movie 300 released in 2007 is an American action film loosely based on the Battle of Thermopylae. The movie has been heavily ridiculed due to its historical inaccuracy. This is a figure of Leonidas the lead in the movie.
In the real world Leonidas "Son of the Lion" was a hero - king of Sparta. Leonidas could trace his lineage back to Hercules son of Zeus.
The election of Leonidas to lead the defense of Greece against Xerxes' Persian invasion led to Leonidas' death in the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BCE.
While Sparta contributed only 300 Spartans, the total force assembled for the defense of the pass of Thermopylae was between four and seven thousand Greeks. They faced a Persian army consisting of over two million men.
After his death Leonidas was honored with a hero cult thus becoming closer to the gods.
The Spartans were not only famous for holding the pass at Thermopylae, they are well known today for homosexual love amongst the ranks as a way of military bonding.
Meaning that Leonidas may well be my first gay Pop character.
This is the 16th figure in the Movies line of Funko pop vinyl figures. Leonidas is from the movie 300.
Leonidas has a nice metallic golden helmet with a tall "brush" on top. The helmet is cracked and looks battle worn.
The sword looks awesome and the shield has dings where it has deflected a number of blows. He wears a tooth necklace and unlike the movie his Abdominal muscles are not drawn on but are sculpted.
Leonidas wears nice sandals and has cute little spartan feet.
Leonidas wears a nice cape it goes really well with his metallic gold armor.
Leonidas is quite tall due to his helmet plume.
He stands here with Jack Sparrow.
Here we see Leonidas with Khal Drogo from the Game of Thrones line.
